Discussion Questions

11:00am-11:30am: Coffee Break

11:30am-12:30pm: Poster/Demo Session 1

12:30pm-1:30pm: Lunch

1:30pm-2:30pm: Poster/Demo Session 2

2:30pm-4:00pm: Breakout Sessions: Development of Research and mmW Technology Roadmap and RCN Deliverables

Three Parallel Sessions

A. HW-CSP Interface: Hardware, Circuits, Antennas, Communication and Signal Processing, and Prototypes/Testbeds

Discussion leaders: Subhanshu Gupta (WSU) slides, Jeyanandh Paramesh (CMU), Greg Chance (Intel) slides, Kate Remley (NIST) slides

Discussion points

Research problems to be addressed at the intersection of hardware and antenna design and communication and signal processing techniques. Build on the discussions from 2nd Workhsop as part of the Technology Roadmap; see 2nd workshop report.

B. CSP-NET Interface: Communication and Signal Processing & Networking

Discussion Leaders: Marco Mezzavilla (NYU) slides, Ismail Guvenc (NCSU) slides, Tom Henderson (UW-Seattle) slides, Nicolo Michelusi (Purdue) slides

Discussion points

Research problems to be addressed at the intersection of communication and signal processing and networking techniques; including the role of channel models and testbeds. In particular, the role of accurate physical layer and channel models in end-to-end network simulations (using the ns-3 platform, e.g.). Builds on the issues and challenges identified in first breakout on this topic at the 2nd workshop; see 2nd workshop report.

C. mmW Standards: 5G NR and WiGig/802.11ay

Discussion leaders (slides): Muhammad Kumail Haider (Rice U.) slides, Daniel Steinmetzer (T. U. Darmstadt) slides, Sarah Yost (NI) slides (w extras)

Discussion points

Discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of emerging mmW standards, including synergy between WiGig/802.11ay (WiFi) standards, and 5G NR (including cellular) standards. Builds on the interest generated by the keynote presentations on 5G NR standards on Day 2 of the 2nd workshop from Boon Loong Ng of Samsung (slides)  and Amitava Ghosh of Nokia Bell Labs (slides)

4:00pm-4:30pm: Coffee Break

4:30pm-5:30pm:  Poster/Demo Session 3

6:00pm: Dinner
